Mons First battle of War

The Battle of Mons was the first major action of the British Expeditionary Force (BEF) in the First World War. It was a subsidiary action of the Battle of the Frontiers, in which the Allies clashed with Germany on the French borders.

Second Battle of Ypres

During the First World War, the Second Battle of Ypres was fought from 22 April – 25 May 1915 for control of the tactically important high ground to the east and south of the Flemish town of Ypres in western Belgium.

A Leading Stoker with H.M.S. Queen Mary. Ivan died on 31st of May 1916 during the Battle of Jutland. The Queen Mary was hit twice by shells from the German battlecruiser Derfflinger and her magazines exploded sinking the ship. Ivan was one of 1,266 crew who were killed.
